Poem for the Dallas Fit Team 2000 (Luke's Lockers)
by Kris Blackmon (12/10/2000)

For 26 weeks we signed up to train,
To run the Dallas White Rock marathon come sunshine or rain.

Split into groups by the pace that we run,
We've learned that this running thing can really be fun!

Whether the tag on your shoes is the red or the blue,
26.2 miles is a lot to get through!

With schedules in hand telling us our weekly training plan,
We sure do love that day off from all the miles that we ran!

Inspired by speakers who know what the marathon's all about,
It's the constant motivation that continues to erase any doubt.

One step at a time, 1 miles grows to 2,
And before we can imagine, round the lake twice we've been through!

Water stops are plenty, and our coaches we adore,
Always telling us that we're doing great, just a little bit more.

Are you doing ok? They ask when you're off on the side,
And Don is always there in case you do need a ride!

Close to the end when the going gets tough,
When you think you can't do more and you've just had enough.

A coach passing by will give you a word of encouragement,
And even walk with you awhile to deter your discouragement.

For some it's the first, for others a repeat,
But no matter the case, its quite hard on da' feet!

If our gait's not quite right or we get those sore shins,
Not to worry, we can call Doctors Sherman and Linn!

The friends that we've made on our trips round the lake,
Are the kind that help you get through it when your legs start to ache.

Everyone's a winner in the Dallas Fit team,
Everyone experiences the achievement of a dream.

Knowing you can when you once had such doubts,
That's the gift that running is really all about.

The spirit of running seems to grow in 3 parts,
The physical, the mental, and then deep from the heart.

For interest we've earned on the miles we've put in the bank,
We extend to Don, Sharon and coaches, our sincerest of thanks!!
